Kharadin and Rhianne laid back down on the bed together. There was a polite knock on the door, suddenly realising that she was still half naked, Rhianne quickly clutched the sheets and pulled them back over herself.
A muffled voice came from behind the door, “Is there anybody awake in there?” It was Sephine.
“Yes. Come through Sephine.” Kharadin replied, raising his voice slightly so it carried through the wooden door.
The door began to open and Sephine cautiously came into the room, she poked her head around the door as she entered and saw her mother and father on the bed together. She quickly raised a hand and covered her eyes “Oh my! You two aren‘t doing anything are you?!”
Rhianne and Kharadin laughed together. Rhianne spoke with a amused tone still in her voice. “Relax Sephine, we aren’t nor were we ‘doing anything’. You can uncover your eyes.”
Sephine took her hand away from her eyes and brushed back the strands of black hair that had fallen in front of her face. “Good, because that is something that I would really rather not see. In any case mother, I see that you know father is home. More importantly though, a messenger just called around, he gave me this.” Sephine handed Kharadin a small envelope, it had no addressee on its face but was sealed with blue wax on the back. Kharadin sighed heavily “Seems your father has some business with us.” Kharadin’s voice dropped to a contemptuous tone as he handed the envelope to Rhianne. “That’s the seal of the Basilica in Athel.”
“I would appreciate it Kharadin if you didn’t treat my father with such disdain. I realise that you two hardly ever see eye to eye but nevertheless he is family.” Rhianne said sternly. She opened the envelope and took out the piece of parchment inside. She began to read over the letter, smiling and frowning intermittently as she read through it.
“So? Why the constant change in expressions? What does dear Mandrich want?”
“Save the sarcasm Kharadin. It seems he wishes for us to all travel to the Basilica. And my expressions changed because he keeps switching between showering my name with affection whilst abhorring yours, have a look for yourself.” Rhianne handed Kharadin the parchment.”

‘My Dearest Rhianne,
I pray to Arazel that you have been well in the months that I have not seen you. I think of you, my beautiful daughter every day, hoping that you are living the wonderful life you deserve. Firstly I must apologise that we have not seen each other for so long now, church business is consuming my time like a ravenous beast lately, especially in recent weeks, with the increasing unrest around Xandathia. What exactly is behind this I do not yet know and Arazel has yet to tell me anything,
This leads me to the point of this letter, I have come to understand that your buffoon of a husband has returned from Pandema. Whilst I only dread to think what heinous acts he must have engaged in whilst out there regretfully I must request that I talk to him in particular, under Arazel’s instruction. I do so hate it when I am forced to be civil with a heathen like Kharadin but the will of Arazel is my law.
I have contacted Sordath and he has sanctioned the journey to Loire, therefore Kharadin may travel here without risk of parting with his head. I have organised for a carriage to ferry you and my darling granddaughter, the messenger that gave you this letter should lead you to an old friend of mine who can oblige. As for Kharadin, see to it that he protects you every step of the way, should he allow any harm to come to either you or Sephine then I will see to it that the fires of heaven burn him to a cinder.
I greatly look forward to seeing you and Sephine again.
Mandrich

“Well at least there are a few parts where he isn’t relentlessly insulting me.” Kharadin said jokingly “How many years can this man hold a grudge for heavens sake!” Kharadin placed the letter down on the covers and looked at Rhianne, “You are happy with me aren’t you? I’m not holding you back from the ‘wonderful life you deserve’ am I?” There was no worry in Kharadin’s voice, he seemed more as though he was making a point, although his lips tightened as he awaited his wife’s answer.
“Absolutely not Kharadin! My father is just being pig-headed. He’s a holy man, if he can hold a deadly grudge against all of the other national churches then I’m sure he can manage to be on edge about the man his only daughter has chosen. Please try not to kick off about it when you two come face to face. Who knows for the first time in our 18 year marriage he might actually try to get along with you.”
“Maybe. We’ll have to see, won’t we?” Kharadin silently thought to himself Not if I have anything to say about it, he hates me, I hate him, the system works.
A messeneger calls at Kharadin's home and bears a message from a close aquaintence, much to Kharadin's dislike.

It's good to be back people! :boogie:
